The 2021 Score Football set is the first football set for the upcoming 2020-21 season. I have mixed feelings about this set. The base set has two parts. The first 300 cards are veterans and the final 100 are Rookies. The thing that I don’t like is that there are retired players sprinkled in with the other veterans. I would rather have a card of a team’s fifth wide receiver or backup running back than a Joe Namath or John Elway card decades after their retirement. I have no problem with retired players as inserts but not as base cards. I also don’t understand why there are 3 Tom Brady base cards. He has a Buccaneers and also two Patriot’s cards. If you don’t like the GOAT then you should probably stay away from hobby boxes because the hobby product has a 581 card Tom Brady TD Tribute subset.
The rookie cards are desirable but they are in their pre NFL uniforms so they are more like prospect cards. Most people are more interested in the first cards in NFL uniforms and loathe the college cards like baseball fans loathe unofficial cards sans the team names. The veteran’s cards have the Score name in the top left corner. In the top right corner the veterans have the team logo and the rookies have the Score name plus the RC designation. The veteran cards have the player’s name and their position at the bottom center. The rookies have the name of their college/university team.
About 90% of the veteran cards are grouped by team except for a few players mixed in with a different team. The last 25 or so cards are not placed with their other team cards.
It should be noted that these packs are a bit different from other card companies. Some other manufacturers state that the packs may contain less cards if there is a special insert. I’ve opened Score packs from blasters that you could tell were a little ‘fatter’. These contained a special insert but still contained the same number of cards as the other packs.
