Topps Heritage Baseball has become an attractive option for those that like to put sets together. The 2021 Topps Heritage set marks the 21st year of this product. The first set was the 2001 set which had the design of the 1952 Topps set. This year’s set is ‘Recreating the 1972 Topps design’.
There are 500 cards in the set. As usual, the last 100 cards are all short prints. The SPs are not that easy to find because they only occur in about one out of every three packs.
Note that Topps has announced a major printing error. Card number 216 was not released. This card is for Cavan Biggio. The company said that it will be available as part of the 2021 Topps Heritage High Number Baseball that is expected to be released in the fall.
Rookies follow the 1972 design that had two or three players per card. Some have ‘In Action’ cards as well.
League Leader cards are quite a bit different from those in the flagship top set. The latter has one player on the front of the card. This person might not have led the league in the category but is among the league leaders. The Heritage ones have three or even four players on the front and their league rank is noted.
